Managing the IT department’s carbon footprint
Mission
Support the IT department of a public transport operator in managing its carbon footprint in order to initiate a plan to reduce CO2 emissions related to IT.
Objectives
Map the IT activities generating the most CO2 emissions, then allocate these emissions by service using the ABC model
Action plan to reduce CO2 emissions related to IT
Actions carried out
- Review of resources and estimation of carbon emissions through the allocation of emission factors
- Inventory of equipment and reprocessing through LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)
- Identification of specific “carbon” analysis areas and integration into the model
- Adjustment of the SIT model for carbon valuation
- Production of an analysis report CHF / CO2 equivalent
Identification of areas and topics to be further explored for reduction - Production of a roadmap with detailed reduction initiatives
Results
- Implementation of an analytical dashboard highlighting the SIT carbon footprint by scope, by service, by client, and by “resources” file
- A conclusion on the activities generating the most carbon emissions
